THE CALYX was built the philosophy that the Sun is the source of life for our universe. A monument to appreciate the significance of the Spirit of the Sun was raised as the focal point of the property. This luxury estate basks in the powers of the Sun’s radiance, spreading physical and spiritual warmth for it’s inhabitants. The monument to the Spirit of the Sun was created by Seiki Torige, a Japanese glass sculptor whose creations adorns several luxury estates in Bali and worldwide.
“Calyx” or “Utena” in Japanese reflects the philosophy of the Japanese culture. The grand presence of the four universal elements – fire, soil, air and water are represented by icons in each villa and supported by statue of the sun god enshrined on a stand. Just as a calyx supports its flower, the utena supports the lotus stand. And the guests are the flowers of this resort. The intention is immerse guests in the quality richness of the resort’s chosen location – from culture to nature and landscape, complemented by the holistic core of a retreat philosophy. The interior aesthetic of the villas is designed to feel like Mediterranean rural home in the hills that belongs to island tradition. With the property located close to the Holy Pura Uluwatu, one of Bali’s nine mother temples, the site’s spiritual energy radiates throughout.
To understand THE CALYX is to have an insight of the concept – to indulge every guest’s sense of respite by staying high above the sea level. With all the vital elements already provided by the natural surroundings itself, THE CALYX offers the perfect blend of unobtrusive view and unspoilt beauty of mother nature of the deep soul on this southwestern side of Bali, Uluwatu. Yes, this is the philosophy reflecting the true nature of life, a circle that rotates eternally without disruption
